India’s Ambitious Move To Acquire 97 New Drones Under ‘Make In India’ Programme

The Indian armed forces are planning to buy 97 new, highly capable drones as part of a joint acquisition plan. This is a big step for the government’s “Make in India” program.
The cost of the program is estimated to be more than ten thousand crore rupees. Sources in high places in the government also said that the Defense Ministry is likely to look at a plan in this area soon.
Senior government officials say that the process for buying 97 drones is the same as the one that was used to buy 31 Predators drones, whose proposal was handled by the Integrated Defence Staff as a joint purchase.
The defense forces have used science research to decide that they need to buy 97 drones. The Indian Air Force would be in charge of this purchase. They would get more than 40 of these 97 drones.
