Story Highlights
  • The Defense business has been a strong driver of growth for us, and this win solidifies our leadership in the defense mobility vehicles business.
  • This is also proof that we are committed to giving our armed forces the best mobility options.

The Indian Army has given Ashok Leyland an order for high mobility trucks worth Rs 800 crore.

The deal includes buying a variety of 4×4 field artillery tractor and 6×6 gun towing vehicles for the Indian Army. These vehicles will be used to pull heavy and medium artillery guns and howitzers.

The 4×4 FAT and the 6×6 Gun towing truck are both on the positive indigenisation list of the Ministry of Defense (MoD). The armed forces can’t get any of the tools on the positive indigenization list from companies outside of India.

The 6×6 gin towing truck can pull up to 8 tonnes of weight. It has a 10 tonne winch for self-recovery and a 2.7 tonne crane for loading and unloading ammo.

Shenu Agrawal, the Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Ashok Leyland, said, “The Defense business has been a strong driver of growth for us, and this win solidifies our leadership in the defense mobility vehicles business.”

“This is also proof that we are committed to giving our armed forces the best mobility options. “We are thankful that the Indian government has put its trust in Ashok Leyland, and we are still committed to helping the country become more self-reliant in defense manufacturing,” Agrawal said.

The order should be carried out in the next 12 months.
