To Enhance Aatmanirbhar Bharat Mission, CDS Gen Anil Chauhan Inaugurates DRDO Workshop

Story Highlights
  • In his presentation, the Chief of Defence Staff emphasised how important it is to include the HFE right from the beginning of quality requirements and design. This is so that the soldiers will accept the weapons as their own.
  • Senior people from a number of defence businesses and public sector organisations (PSUs), as well as the Indian Air Force, were at this session. HFE is a field of study that looks at how to make tools and systems that are safe and easy to use while taking into account what people can and can't do.

With the help of this workshop, a set of policies and best practises will be made to make sure that human factors engineering is used in a scientific way.

On March 15, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan opened a two-day workshop in New Delhi called “Human Factors Engineering in Military Systems.” The workshop was called “Human Factors Engineering in Military Systems.” The Defense Institute of Physiology and Allied Sciences (DIPAS), a research centre for the Defense Research and Development Organisation that is based in Delhi, put on the workshop (DRDO).

With the help of this workshop, a policy framework and best practises will be made to make sure that human factors engineering (HFE) is used scientifically in the defence industry, which will help Aatmanirbhar Bharat reach its goal. The HFE is a science that looks at how to make tools and systems that are safe and easy to use while taking into account what people can and can’t do.

What’s the HFE?
Human factors engineering in military platforms is what HFE is called by its full name. It talks about how the work environment and the way systems are made interact with people’s abilities, expectations, and limits. This phrase means to think about how people will use a system or device when making it.

Its goal is to make things that people will want to use and that can work safely in normal situations. HFE improves how well people do in medical situations. It also lowers the risk that a user will make a mistake.

CDS General Anil Chauhan put a lot of attention on weapons made in India.

In his presentation, the Chief of Defence Staff emphasised how important it is to include the HFE right from the beginning of quality requirements and design. This is so that the soldiers will accept the weapons as their own. Also, he has pushed for the Integrated Defence Staff to work together to create a synergistic strategy and policy framework for putting the HFE into action. Both long-term wars and quick special operations will be taken into account.

He also said that the HFE will be just as important for defence systems in the age of artificial intelligence and system autonomy. At DRDO, senior scientists, members of strategic planning, the Army design bureau, the Armoured corps, the infantry, and the warship design bureau have been working on future defence technology. Senior people from a number of defence businesses and public sector organisations (PSUs), as well as the Indian Air Force, were at this session. HFE is a field of study that looks at how to make tools and systems that are safe and easy to use while taking into account what people can and can’t do.
