Rajnath Singh Participates In 10th ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting-Plus In Jakarta

Thursday, the 10th ASEAN Defence Ministers Meeting-Plus (ADMM-Plus) took place in Jakarta, Indonesia, which is the main city of Indonesia.

Singh will talk about regional and international security problems at the meeting, which is being held along with the Defense Ministers of the countries that are taking part, the Ministry of Defense said in a previous press release.

A man named Prabowo Subianto, who is the Indonesian Defense Minister and Chair of ADMM Plus, met Singh. The two leaders said hello to each other and then went to the meeting.

The office of Rajnath Singh told X, “Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh will be in Jakarta for the 10th ASEAN Defense Ministers’ Meeting. He was greeted by Mr. Prabowo Subianto, who is the Indonesian Defense Minister and Chair of ADMM Plus.

Singh tweeted on Wednesday that he was looking forward to talking with his peers from other countries about the big security problems and chances that the ASEAN region has right now.

The Defense Minister will talk to the group about regional and global security problems on the first day of the meeting.

The Defense Ministry said in a statement that the ADMM is the top level of defense cooperation and consultation in ASEAN.

The ADMM-Plus Ministers have been getting together once a year since 2017 to improve relations between ASEAN and the Plus countries. The meeting is being held in Indonesia because it is the chair of ADMM-Plus.

Prior to his departure, Rajnath Singh wrote on X that he was excited to meet with his peers from other countries to talk about the biggest security challenges and opportunities facing the ASEAN region.

At the 10th ADMM-Plus, the next group of co-chairs for the years 2024–2027 will also be named. As of now, from 2021 to 2024, India and Indonesia are both co-chairing the Experts Working Group on HADR.

Rajnath Singh will meet with the Defense Ministers of the involved countries outside of ADMM-Plus to talk about ways to improve defense cooperation and make the relationships between the countries stronger.

ASEAN member states (Burnei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam) and its eight dialogue partners (India, the US, China, Russia, Japan, South Korea, Australia, and New Zealand) can work together on security and defense through the ADMM-Plus.

China joined ASEAN as a discussion partner in 1992. Also, the first ADMM-Plus meeting took place in Hanoi, Vietnam, on October 12, 2010.

Since 2017, the ADMM-Plus Ministers talks have been held every year to improve cooperation between ASEAN and the Plus countries.

As per a Defence Ministry announcement, “The ADMM-Plus progresses practical cooperation amongst member countries through seven Experts Working Groups (EWGs) namely Maritime Security, Military Medicine, Cyber Security, Peacekeeping Operations, Counter Terrorism, Humanitarian Mine Action and Humanitarian Assistance & Disaster Relief (HADR).”
