India’s ‘Zorawar’ Light Tank Geared For Border Operations Nears Trial Phase

Story Highlights
  • Active defense against incoming attacks is built into the design, and an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) improves battlefield vision
  • The Indian military will have a strategic advantage in the area because the tank is believed to be better than the Chinese Type 15 tanks.

The light tank that India created and built itself, which they are thinking of calling Zorawar, should be ready for tests by the end of this month.

The tank is made to work at high elevations, mostly on the border with China because of its armored deployments. It is supposed to be more mobile and have more powerful weapons than the Type 15 tank from China.

The story also says that the tank will go through a number of tests in December.

The 25-tonne category light tank was made in record time to meet the need for more movement at high elevations, which is very important as tensions rise in eastern Ladakh in 2020.

As a result of China’s use of light armor at high elevations, the Indian tank was quickly developed. It has a unique chassis, which dispels earlier rumors that it might use the K9 Vajra self-propelled gun chassis.

The tank, which has a 105 mm gun made by John Cockerill, will go through tests in December after getting permission to be built in April 2022. Larsen and Toubro (L&T) and the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) worked together on this project to give the Indian military a firepower base that is both highly mobile and accurate.

In spite of what people thought at first, the tank is a completely new design that shows how advanced local technology is.

The 105 mm gun, which is a very important part, is expected to be made in India so that the tanks can be made in large numbers.

Active defense against incoming attacks is built into the design, and an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) improves battlefield vision, which is very important for operations in difficult terrain.

It is the Zorawar tank’s job to work on all types of terrain, from highlands to islands. It is also made to be easily transported by air for quick deployment.

The Indian military will have a strategic advantage in the area because the tank is believed to be better than the Chinese Type 15 tanks.
