Pakistan Violates Ceasefire Near LoC In Jammu, BSF Jawan Injured
- India and Pakistan have had very few ceasefire violations since the agreement was renewed on February 25, 2021.
- The second phase of voting is scheduled for September 25th, followed by the final phase on October 1st.
A BSF soldier was injured after Pakistani troops opened fire on Indian posts in Jammu and Kashmir, violating a ceasefire agreement along the border.
The BSF responded to the attack “appropriately,” though the extent of damage on the Pakistani side is unknown.
“At approximately 2.35 a.m., an incident of unprovoked firing in the Akhnoor area from across the border occurred, to which the BSF responded appropriately. “One BSF personnel was injured in Pakistani firing,” a BSF spokesperson said.
The spokesperson also stated that the troops are on high alert, ensuring tight surveillance along the international border and the Line of Control.
India and Pakistan have had very few ceasefire violations since the agreement was renewed on February 25, 2021.
However, last year, a BSF soldier was killed in the Ramgarh sector as a result of Pakistan Rangers fire, the first Indian casualty in more than three years.
This latest ceasefire violation occurred just days before the first phase of the three-phase J&K assembly elections, which are scheduled to begin on September 18.
