Indian Navy Successfully Tests First Indigenously Developed ‘Anti-Ship Missile’
- The Indo-Russian cruise missile BrahMos used to have a range of 290 km, but now it has a range of 350 to 400 km.
- The Indian Navy successfully fired the MRSAM (Medium Range Surface-to-Air Missile) from INS Visakhapatnam in March of this year
India successfully tested its own naval anti-ship weapon for the second time on Tuesday, after the first test in May of last year. The Indian Navy and the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) worked together on the test.
“The #IndianNavy and @DRDO_India successfully conducted guided flight trials of the #1 first indigenously developed naval #antishipmissile from a Seaking 42B helicopter on November 21, 23.” “A big step toward becoming self-sufficient in niche missile technology, such as seeker and guidance technology,” the navy wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
From the Sea King 42B chopper, the Indian Navy shared a video on X that showed this.

This Naval Anti-Ship Missile Short Range (NASM-SR) had its first test in May 2022, when it was fired from an Indian Navy Seaking chopper at the integrated test range (ITR) at Chandipur, which is off the coast of Odisha.
The missile uses many advanced technologies, including a launcher made in-house for the helicopter and a guiding system with cutting-edge navigation and built-in electronics.
Also, in October, the Indian Navy said it was getting ready for the first test of a new Long Range Anti-Ship Missile made by DRDO. This missile has a range of 500 km, which is farther than the BrahMos missile.
The Indo-Russian cruise missile BrahMos used to have a range of 290 km, but now it has a range of 350 to 400 km.
The Indian Navy successfully fired the MRSAM (Medium Range Surface-to-Air Missile) from INS Visakhapatnam in March of this year, proving that it can stop “Anti Ship Missiles.”
The Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) and the Israeli Aerospace Industries (IAI) worked together to make the Medium Range Surface-to-Air Missile, which was made by Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL).
