Guwahati (Assam) [India], April 6 (ANI): Security forces are working harder to get things back to normal in Upper Assam, where the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) (I) is still doing bad things in some areas, officials said on Thursday.

United Liberation Front of Asom – Independent (ULFA) (I) is a banned group in the state.

A senior Indian army source said that in the past year, Security Forces have caught 107 cadres/Overground Workers of ULFA (I), found and took back 60 weapons, and used a soft approach to get 22 cadres to turn themselves in and stop 64 others from joining.

Under the condition of anonymity, a defense source said that a “whole-of-government approach” is in place and being used to bring full normalcy back to the last few pockets of Upper Assam.

ULFA (I)’s ideology has been pushed to the side for a long time because the state has been growing quickly and the government has been stable. This has led to a large number of leaders being caught, weapons being found, cadres giving up, and recruitment being stopped.
