The Ukrainian Defense Ministry sent out a tweet on April 30 that showed an offensive mix of the American actress Marilyn Monroe in her famous “flying skirt” pose and the Hindu Goddess “Maa Kali,” whose face and details were in the background of a blast.
The tweet was called “Work of art,” and it showed a picture that Ukrainian artist Maksym Palenko had made up on the spot. But this post got a lot of negative feedback and made people angry online, so the Ministry deleted the tweet.
Several Internet users said they didn’t like the tweet and accused the Ministry of being insensitive and insulting to Hindus.
One person on Twitter wrote, “Wow! The official account of the Ukraine Defense Ministry shows Maa Kali in a pose that makes her look bad. This is not an artistic piece. Our faith is nothing to talk about. Take it down and say you’re sorry.” Another Twitter user said, “It’s not okay to hurt the feelings of 1.4 billion Indians, @DefenceU.
This is a clear example of how the Ukrainian defense ministry hates Hindus. Please take this away.” Dzhaporava just got back from a trip to India. It was the first time a Ukrainian minister had been there since the Ukraine war began in February of last year.
