BSF Arrests 23 Bangladeshi Smugglers In Tripura, Seizes 6,000 kg Of Sugar
- More sugar is being smuggled across the border between India and Bangladesh in Tripura these days than in the past, a government source said.
- 16 people were caught smuggling goods, and 5.49 lakh kg of sugar was seized at the border between India and Bangladesh in Tripura, he said.
Authorities say that the BSF caught up to 23 people smuggling Bangladeshi goods in Samarganja, which is in the South Tripura district, on Tuesday.
He also said that the BSF took 17 cell phones and more than 6,000 kg of sugar from them.
“Based on specific information about sugar being smuggled across borders, troops waited at Samarganj on Tuesday and caught 23 Bangladeshi smugglers,” a BSF source said.
It looks like about 30 Bangladeshi criminals, working together in small groups, crossed the border to get sugar from their partners in India.
“They were caught with a total of 6,250 kg of sugar in 125 bags, as well as 17 cell phones.” Only one of the 23 people nabbed is from Bangladesh; the other 21 are from the Feni district, he said.
He said that a FIR was made and that the arrested Bangladeshi smugglers were then given to the police to handle further.
