Rajnath Singh Visits Border Areas In J&K, Reviews Security Situation

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh went to the border towns of Rajouri and Poonch in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, where he checked on the security along the Line of Control (LoC), according to officials.

He also looked at the current counter-terrorism operations in the two districts himself, they said.

It has been almost a week since terrorists attacked and killed four troops in their vehicles in the Surankote area of Poonch on December 21. This is when the defense minister is visiting.

The defense minister flew to Rajouri district right after he got here this afternoon, with Army chief General Manoj Pande, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Northern Command Lt Gen Upendra Dwivedi, and Lt Governor Manoj Sinha with him.

Officials say that when Mr. Singh got back from Rajouri, he went to Raj Bhawan and held a security review meeting behind closed doors.

They said the defense minister was told about the current state of security, the counter-infiltration grid, and how ready the military was for operations.

Singh talked to the leaders on the ground about the problems that come with operations, according to officials. He also told them to be professional and do their best while operations are going on.

In his speech, Mr. Singh was pleased with how well the security forces, the civilian government, the J&K Police, the Central Armed Police Forces, and other security agencies worked together to send a strong message of determination to make the Union territory a safer place so that a new era of growth could begin.

In addition, he praised the people in the area for their persistence and work in supporting the main efforts of the Indian government.

During the meeting, it was emphasized that the most important thing for achieving the UT’s goals of peace and growth is for everyone to think the same way and work together for the good of the country.

General Pande, the head of the Army, visited the Rajouri-Poonch region on December 25 and told everyone in the Army to do their jobs professionally and stay strong in the face of any problems.
