The confrontation happened in the evening of October 2, after police searched and set up a cordon in a forest area of the district.
Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police together blocked off the Broh and Soom forest belts in the Kalakote area on Monday, October 2, because they had heard of strange movement there.
When the attackers tried to break through the cordon, they fired at the troops, which made the security forces fight back.
A senior police officer said that two Army soldiers were hurt in the gun fight.
