Indian Navy Signs ₹66 Crore Deal with Odisha Startup for Cutting-Edge Underwater Vehicles
Homegrown UWROVs and Autonomous Surface Vehicles to Boost India’s Naval Surveillance

The Indian Navy has taken a major step toward strengthening its underwater surveillance capabilities by signing a ₹66 crore contract with Odisha-based deep-tech startup, Coratia Technologies. This deal involves the deployment of advanced Underwater Remotely Operated Vehicles (UWROVs) and an Autonomous Surface Vehicle (ASV), marking a significant milestone for indigenous defence technology.
Under the agreement, Coratia Technologies will supply three specialized platforms – Jalasimha, Jaladuta, and Navya. These systems are equipped for real-time seabed mapping, underwater inspections, and AI-enabled data analysis, enhancing both security and operational efficiency for the Navy.
Debendra Pradhan, CEO of Coratia Technologies, highlighted the strategic importance of the partnership: “This collaboration showcases India’s capability in developing mission-critical underwater systems domestically, reducing dependence on foreign suppliers.”
The startup’s technology is designed for multiple applications beyond defence, including offshore infrastructure inspection, pipeline monitoring, dam and bridge surveys, and disaster management operations. Coratia has previously served clients such as SAIL, Indian Oil, Indian Railways, and Tata Steel, proving its expertise in complex underwater robotics.
This deal reflects the Indian Navy’s push toward adopting homegrown innovations while supporting the ‘Make in India’ initiative in defence technology. Analysts note that integrating indigenous UWROVs into naval operations will not only cut costs but also enhance strategic self-reliance in underwater defence systems.
With the global underwater robotics market expected to nearly double from $5.08 billion in 2025 to $9.53 billion by 2030, partnerships like this position India as a rising player in the defence robotics sector.
