Indian Army Neutralises Four UKNA Militants in Major Counter-Insurgency Operation in Manipur

Precision strike in Churachandpur district marks a significant blow to the United Kuki National Army’s militant network.

In a decisive counter-insurgency operation, the Indian Army eliminated four militants of the United Kuki National Army (UKNA) during an intense encounter in Khanpi village, located in Manipur’s Churachandpur district. The well-coordinated action comes as part of ongoing efforts to restore peace and stability in the conflict-affected hill regions of the state.

According to official defence sources, the operation was launched following credible intelligence inputs about the presence of heavily armed militants in the forested area near Khanpi. When troops approached the suspected hideout, they came under fire, triggering a fierce gun battle that resulted in the neutralisation of four insurgents.

During a subsequent search, security forces recovered a cache of weapons, ammunition, and communication equipment, which are now being examined for intelligence value. The Army has maintained a strong perimeter around the area while follow-up search and surveillance operations continue to ensure no additional militants remain in the vicinity.

The United Kuki National Army, which is not a signatory to the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement, has been active in several parts of southern Manipur. The group has been accused of involvement in armed violence and extortion activities in recent months. The latest strike by the Indian Army is being seen as a significant step toward dismantling the group’s operational network.

Local officials have confirmed that no civilian casualties occurred during the operation. Enhanced patrolling and drone-based monitoring are being carried out to maintain security in nearby villages. The Army has reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace and ensuring the safety of local communities while continuing its counter-insurgency missions in the region.

The encounter underscores the Army’s determination to respond swiftly to militant threats and strengthen border-area security along the India–Myanmar corridor, a zone often exploited by insurgent groups for movement and supply.
