Indian Army Adopts Singular Uniform For Brigadier And Higher Ranks

Army officials said that the Indian Army has made a new rule about uniforms for all top officers with the rank of Brigadier or higher, no matter where they came from or when they were first hired.

They said that the move would strengthen the Indian Army’s sense of shared identity and its reputation as a fair and equal organization. The choice was made after detailed discussions at the Army Commanders Conference, which just ended, and after a lot of talking with everyone involved.

Officials said that senior soldiers of flag rank (Brigadier and above) will now have the same hats, shoulder rank badges, gorget patches, belts, and shoes. Officers with the rank of flag will no longer wear any kind of chain.

Officials said that the move was made to support and strengthen a common identity and attitude to service issues among senior leadership outside of regiments.

Officers at the Brigadier level and above have already led units and battalions. They are usually stationed at headquarters or other places where officers from all arms and forces work and do their jobs together.

Officials say that a standard uniform will give all high-ranking soldiers a common look and show what the Indian Army is all about.

Army officials said that Colonels and soldiers below that rank will keep wearing the same uniform.
