India has reacted strongly to the latest Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia, condemning the strikes and raising concerns about their implications for security across the region. New Delhi’s response comes amid renewed hostilities involving the Houthi movement and Saudi-backed forces, adding to the growing instability in the Middle East.
Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said India condemns attacks carried out against Saudi sovereign territory, particularly when civilian and economic facilities are affected. He also stressed that any activity that threatens regional peace and stability or interferes with freedom of navigation in the Bab-el-Mandeb is unacceptable.
The Indian response follows reports of missile and drone attacks targeting parts of southern Saudi Arabia. Several locations have faced security alerts as the latest violence has increased concerns about the protection of populated areas and strategically important infrastructure.
The situation has significance beyond Saudi Arabia and Yemen because of the location of the conflict. The Bab-el-Mandeb connects the Red Sea with the Gulf of Aden and forms an important part of the maritime route between the Indian Ocean and the Mediterranean.
