India to Deploy 800 km BrahMos Missiles, Boosting Strategic Strike Capability

Next-Generation Supersonic Missiles to Elevate India’s Military Reach by 2027

India is set to strengthen its defense arsenal with the induction of the extended-range BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles, capable of striking targets up to 800 km away. The advanced missile is expected to be operational by 2027, significantly enhancing India’s conventional strike capabilities.

The Navy will benefit from upgraded BrahMos units on frontline warships, requiring minimal software adjustments, while the Army’s missile units are set to integrate these high-speed weapons to bolster rapid-response capability. The new variant features improvements in propulsion, guidance systems, and electronic countermeasure resistance, ensuring high precision and reliability.

Alongside the BrahMos, the Indian Air Force is expanding its inventory of Astra air-to-air missiles. The Astra Mark-2 missile, with a range exceeding 200 km, will be deployed on aircraft such as the Sukhoi-30MKI and Tejas fighter jets. The future Astra Mark-3 variant, with an extended range of up to 350 km using solid-fuel ramjet technology, is projected to enter service within the next three years, reinforcing India’s aerial combat strength.

The BrahMos and Astra programs highlight India’s commitment to self-reliance in defense technology and precision strike systems, gradually reducing dependence on foreign imports while delivering high-performance weapons to the armed forces.
