BSF Launches Drone Commando Units to Strengthen Border Security

Specially trained “Drone Warriors” to counter rising cross-border aerial threats.

In a major step towards strengthening India’s border security, the Border Security Force (BSF) has started training a new cadre of commandos, popularly called “Drone Warriors,” to counter the growing use of drones in modern warfare.

Over the past few years, the BSF has faced repeated drone-related challenges, particularly along the western front where unmanned aerial vehicles have been used for smuggling narcotics, arms, and surveillance operations. Recognizing the scale of the threat, the force has now initiated a specialized training program to equip its personnel with the skills needed to detect, track, and neutralize hostile drones.

According to officials, these commandos are being trained in the use of advanced drone detection systems, jamming equipment, and counter-drone tactics. The program also focuses on rapid-response operations in difficult terrains, ensuring that the units can act swiftly in real-time scenarios.

The deployment of drone commandos marks a shift in India’s approach to border management, where technology and manpower are being integrated to address unconventional threats. Experts suggest that the BSF’s move will not only enhance security but also serve as a deterrent against adversaries relying on drones for cross-border activities.

This development underscores the BSF’s ongoing modernization drive and reflects India’s determination to stay ahead in the evolving landscape of hybrid warfare.
