Officials say that the army killed one terrorist and caught two others alive when they stopped armed rebels from getting across the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district between Saturday night and Sunday morning.
“On Saturday around 10:15 p.m., troops on the Line of Control in the Poonch sector saw three suspicious people moving close to the Line of Control,” said Lt Col Devender Anand, a defense spokesperson in Jammu.
He also said that the group crossed the Line of Control and got into India around midnight. “As the group got close to the fence around 2:00 a.m. (2 a.m.), the alert troops challenged the infiltrators. They started shooting at each other, and one of the intruders was killed. The other two ran into the bush, taking advantage of the thick brush and rocky outcropping.
He said that the area was blocked off right away so that they couldn’t run across the LoC. He also said that a search operation was started as soon as it got light on Sunday, and the dead body of one intruder was found at the site of the encounter.
“As the search went on in the bush, a wounded but still alive intruder was found. “During the next search, the third intruder was also caught alive,” Lt. Col. Anand said.
Officials say that so far, they have found three bags with 14 packages of drugs weighing nearly 17 kg, as well as Pakistani currency, some papers, and food.
“During preliminary questioning, the two intruders who were caught alive said that all three of them lived in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (POJK) and were from Maidan Mohalla in the village of Chanjal,” the spokesperson said.
A spokesperson for the Indian Army said that the troops’ quick response stopped a big attempt by a narco-terror group to get into the Poonch and Rajouri districts. This group could have caused trouble there.
