India Reaffirms Africa as Strategic Partner, Expands Defence and Security Cooperation

India has reaffirmed Africa’s strategic importance and expressed its commitment to further strengthening cooperation in defence, security and capacity building. The renewed focus highlights New Delhi’s efforts to build a long-term partnership with African nations based on mutual trust, shared interests and regional stability.

External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar emphasised the growing significance of India-Africa relations and highlighted that cooperation between the two regions has expanded beyond traditional areas. Defence and security engagement have emerged as important pillars of this partnership, with both sides working together to address evolving challenges in the global security environment.

India has been actively enhancing defence cooperation with African countries through military training programmes, defence exchanges, strategic dialogues and capability-building initiatives.
