Army Chief: Control of Land Will Be the Key to Winning Future Wars

General Dwivedi says boots on the ground will remain decisive despite tech-driven warfare

Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi has stressed that no matter how advanced future wars become, the ultimate measure of victory will still depend on control over land.

Addressing a gathering of defence personnel, General Dwivedi explained that while cyber warfare, artificial intelligence, drones, and space-based systems are increasingly shaping military strategies, they cannot replace the importance of holding ground. “The decisive factor in any conflict will always be territorial control. Modern technology can enhance capabilities, but it cannot substitute physical dominance on the battlefield,” he said.

The Army Chief also underlined the significance of readiness along India’s borders, where disputes and challenges remain a constant reality. He emphasized that the Indian Army is working on rapid modernization, integrating advanced technology, and preparing soldiers for both traditional and hybrid warfare scenarios.

Military analysts see his remarks as a reminder that in South Asia’s security environment, territorial integrity will continue to define outcomes, regardless of how warfare evolves.
