Indian Army Soldiers Stationed Near The Border With China Will Get Their Own Weather App

Soon, Indian Army troops stationed along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh will be able to use an app to get accurate forecasts of the weather.

The Indian Army will launch the “Anuman” app in New Delhi on May 19, 2023. The vice chief of the Indian Army, Lt. Gen. MV Suchindra Kumar, will do this.

This app for the Indian Army troops was made with help from the National Centre for Medium Range Weather Forecasting (NCMRWF). In November of last year, both sides signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to work together.

The Indian Army will do everything it can to help NCMRWF gather information along the Northern Borders. And in the future, this group will make custom goods for the army that will help its troops and other parts along the border with China get better weather forecasts.

A top Indian Army officer said that this collaboration is important because the weather information is very important for Commanders on the ground and will help them plan and carry out their operations. NCMRWF gives its data to Artillery Units on a regular basis so that they can “tune its weapon platforms before firing projectiles through the earth’s atmosphere.” And the Arty units have been able to fire more effectively because of these inputs.

Gen. Manoj Pande, the head of the Indian army, said in January that this is the year of change for the army. In line with this, the army has been working on a number of tech projects that will make it ready for war in the future. Some of these projects are Project Avagat, Project Indra, the Battlefield Surveillance System, the Situational Awareness Module for the Army, and the Situational Reporting Over Enterprise-Class GIS Platform (E-Sitrep), among others. And these projects for the army are meant to “reshape and re-engineer” the functional processes to give the force a “quantum jump” in its abilities.

A top officer says that this is an ongoing process that changes as technology changes. In fact, the army is working on a number of safe automation projects that will help it grow its digital footprints. These projects are being done to simplify systems and improve operational efficiency. These will also help the army with things like managing human resources, logistics, medical services, and other routine tasks.
