Vice-Admiral Sanjay J. Singh became the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief (FOC-in-C) of the Western Naval Command (WNC), which is based in Mumbai, on Wednesday. In an event at INS Shikra, Vice-Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi gave him the reins!
A Navy report said that Vice-Admiral Tripathi has been named Vice Chief of Naval Staff and will be based at Naval Headquarters in New Delhi.
Vice Admiral Singh was the Vice Chief of Naval Staff at Naval headquarters before becoming the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the WNC.
Vice-Admiral Singh graduated from the National Defense Academy in Pune and joined the Navy in 1986 as an officer in the Executive Branch.
Over the course of 37 years, he has worked on most types of Navy ships and in a variety of command, training, and staff roles. These have included Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Communications, Space, and Network-Centric Operations (CSNCO)), Flag Officer Sea Training, Flag Officer Commanding Western Fleet, Commandant Naval War College, Controller Personnel Services, and Deputy Chief of Integrated Defence Staff (Operations), according to the Navy.
A press statement said that he was the main person who wrote the Indian Navy’s Maritime Doctrine in 2009, Strategic Guidance to Transformation in 2015, and the Indian Maritime Security Strategy in 2015.
In 1992, Vice-Admiral Singh became an expert in guidance and direction. In 2000, he went to the UK to take the Advanced Command and Staff Course.
In 2009, he took the Naval Higher Command Course at the Naval War College in Mumbai. The next year, he took the National Security Strategy Course at the National Defence College in Delhi.
