Soldier Injured In Manipur’s Unprovoked Firing: Army’s Resilience Prevails

Around 11:45 p.m. on Sunday, some bad guys in Manipur’s Imphal West area started shooting without any reason. One Army soldier was shot in the left leg.

The man was taken to the military hospital at Leimakhong, where he is said to be in good shape.

Sources said that it happened in the Kanto Sabal village next to the Leimakhong (Chingmang) village.

Army Columns used controlled retaliatory fire right away, keeping in mind that there were people in the area.

During the same thing, bad people set fire to three houses in Chinmang village. The Army finally put out the fire.

After a couple of hours of peace, shooting started up again around 2.35 a.m. from Meitei Village in Kanto Sabal and went on until 3 a.m., sources said.

Manipur Chief Minister asks Mizoram counterpart to protect Meiteis

On Sunday, Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh called Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga and asked him to make sure the Meitei people in the neighboring state is safe. There are a lot of Meiteis and Kukis living in Mizoram, and about 10,000 Kukis who had to leave Manipur because of violence are now living in Mizoram.

The call to protect Meiteis in Mizoram came as dozens of BJP lawmakers from the Meitei community in Manipur came to the national capital in the last few days to meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This week, the Manipur Chief Minister is also likely to go to Delhi.
