Iran: US To Take “Full Responsibility” For Israeli Retaliation
- The United States will bear full responsibility for its role in instigating, inciting and enabling any acts of aggression by Israel against the Islamic Republic of Iran
- Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has informed Biden, as reported by the Washington Post
Iran issued a warning on Monday that the United States would be held accountable in the event of a retaliatory attack by Israel against the Islamic Republic. This warning was issued in response to US President Joe Biden’s assertion that he was aware of Israeli intentions to conduct such an attack.
Biden’s statements were deemed “profoundly alarming and provocative” by Amir Saeid Iravani, Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations, in a letter addressed to the Swiss presidency of the UN Security Council and United Nations chief Antonio Guterres.
When asked by a reporter on Friday whether he had a “good understanding right now” of how and when Israel would respond to Iran’s missile barrage on October 1, the US president responded “yes and yes.”
In response to the assassination of Tehran-supported leaders from Hamas and Hezbollah, as well as an Iranian Revolutionary Guard general, Iran launched approximately 200 ballistic missiles at Israel.
Israel, a US ally that is engaged in a conflict with Hamas in Gaza and Hezbollah in Lebanon, has vowed to exact revenge on Iran for the recent strikes.
“This inflammatory statement (of Biden) is deeply concerning, as it indicates the United States’ tacit approval and explicit support for Israel’s unlawful military aggression against Iran,” Iravani stated in the correspondence.
“Therefore, the United States will bear full responsibility for its role in instigating, inciting and enabling any acts of aggression by Israel against the Islamic Republic of Iran, in flagrant violation of the fundamental principles of international law and the United Nations Charter,” according to him.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has informed Biden, as reported by the Washington Post, that his intention is to strike Iran’s military sites rather than its nuclear or oil infrastructure.
