In a strategic move to enhance regional security, India’s Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, visited Sri Lanka and held discussions with Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya. The visit focused on strengthening defence cooperation and advancing joint maritime initiatives between the two nations.
Admiral Tripathi also met senior leaders of the Sri Lankan Navy, Army, and Air Force to explore opportunities for joint training exercises, intelligence sharing, and coordinated maritime operations. Both sides emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts in countering maritime threats, including piracy, drug trafficking, and illegal fishing in the Indian Ocean Region.
Highlighting the long-standing naval partnership between India and Sri Lanka, Admiral Tripathi reiterated India’s commitment to regional stability and proactive defence collaboration. The discussions also included participation in future naval exercises such as MILAN and other multinational events aimed at promoting operational synergy.
This visit coincides with Admiral Tripathi’s attendance at the Galle Dialogue, a platform designed to strengthen maritime security cooperation across South Asia. The engagement reinforces India’s approach to building trusted partnerships in the Indian Ocean while enhancing interoperability between the two navies.
