At a time when Indian defence researchers are developing a large number of tactical missile systems, the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) has approved the establishment of a new missile testing range in Andhra Pradesh.

The proposal was approved by the CCS, which is led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, last week, and the new missile range will be built in Andhra Pradesh’s Nagayalanka area, government sources said.

The new missile testing range will be used to test tactical missile systems such as surface-to-air missile systems, anti-tank missiles, and other projects being developed by the Research and Development Organization, they said.

The CCS approved major military proposals last week, including the purchase of 31 Predator drones from the United States and the construction of two nuclear submarines by Project ATV for the development of strategic submarines for the Indian Navy, according to reports.

Proposals for military road construction and space-based capabilities were also approved. The DRDO is in the process of developing a large number of weapon systems for defense forces, including Very Short Range Air Defence Systems, man-portable anti-tank guided missiles, anti-tank guided missiles, quick reaction surface-to-air missile systems, vertical-launched short-range air defence systems, and many other tactical systems.

The DRDO would also play an important role in the development of nuclear submarines that have been cleared by CCS.
