India, Russia Expand Counter-Terror Partnership to Tackle Evolving Global Security Challenges

India and Russia have agreed to further strengthen their counter-terrorism partnership as both countries seek closer coordination to address rapidly evolving regional and global security challenges. The decision was taken during the latest meeting of the India-Russia Joint Working Group on Counter Terrorism, where officials reviewed the international security environment and discussed practical measures to deepen bilateral cooperation.

During the dialogue, both delegations reaffirmed their unwavering commitment to combating terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. They emphasized that terrorist organizations continue to adapt their tactics by exploiting modern technologies, digital communication platforms, and financial networks, making stronger international cooperation more important than ever.

The two sides exchanged assessments on emerging security threats affecting South Asia, Central Asia, and Europe. Officials discussed the changing nature of cross-border terrorism, the spread of violent extremism, and the growing challenge posed by online radicalization. They also highlighted the need to strengthen efforts against terrorist financing and improve mechanisms to disrupt logistical and financial support networks.

India and Russia agreed to expand cooperation in intelligence sharing, information exchange, and capacity building between their security agencies. The meeting also explored ways to improve coordination in investigations, enhance institutional cooperation, and exchange best practices in counter-terror operations.

Regional developments, particularly the evolving security situation in Afghanistan, were among the key issues discussed. Both countries acknowledged that instability in the region continues to create opportunities for extremist groups and stressed the importance of maintaining vigilance against threats that could impact regional peace and security.

The delegations also reviewed cooperation within multilateral organizations, including the United Nations, BRICS, and the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO). They reiterated the importance of a coordinated global response against terrorism while calling for stronger international efforts to deny terrorist groups safe havens, funding, recruitment channels, and access to emerging technologies.

Officials further underlined the need to strengthen legal and institutional frameworks to effectively counter the misuse of artificial intelligence, encrypted communication platforms, cryptocurrencies, and other advanced technologies by extremist organizations.

The meeting concluded with both sides reaffirming their commitment to maintaining regular consultations and enhancing strategic cooperation in the fight against terrorism. As longstanding strategic partners, India and Russia pledged to continue working together to promote regional stability and strengthen international efforts against evolving security threats.
