India Elevates Its Kabul Mission Amid Efforts to Strengthen Diplomatic Ties
Taliban’s Defence Minister Yaqoob signals intent to deepen relations with India as New Delhi expands its presence in Afghanistan.

In a strategic diplomatic development, India has upgraded its diplomatic mission in Kabul, marking a new chapter in India-Afghanistan relations. The enhanced mission is expected to facilitate stronger engagement in humanitarian aid, development projects, and regional cooperation.
Taliban Defence Minister Mullah Yaqoob, speaking in Doha, highlighted Afghanistan’s willingness to strengthen ties with India, stressing that the relationship will be pursued in line with national priorities. Addressing recent tensions, Yaqoob denied any external influence in border conflicts, reaffirming Afghanistan’s independent approach to international relations.
The upgraded mission, led by a senior diplomat with the rank of charge d’affaires, reflects India’s commitment to maintaining a robust presence in Afghanistan. The move also follows recent diplomatic interactions, including visits by Afghan officials to New Delhi, underscoring both countries’ interest in fostering stability and mutual cooperation despite the evolving regional landscape.
Experts suggest that India’s decision is driven by the need to maintain a constructive role in Afghanistan’s reconstruction and humanitarian efforts while navigating complex geopolitical challenges in South Asia.
