Hensoldt completes Nedinsco acquisition to expand optronics for armoured vehicles
German defence optics manufacturer Hensoldt has completed its acquisition of Nedinsco, strengthening its portfolio of optronics systems designed for armoured vehicle platforms, according to the company announcement.
The acquisition marks Hensoldt’s strategic push into specialised optical and electro-optical systems for land-based military applications. Nedinsco, a Netherlands-based specialist in optronics and surveillance systems, brings advanced sighting, targeting, and observation technologies to Hensoldt’s broader defence electronics portfolio.
Optronics systems form a critical component of modern armoured vehicle suites, particularly for main battle tanks, infantry fighting vehicles, and armoured personnel carriers. These systems integrate cameras, thermal imaging, laser rangefinders, and fire control optics that enable vehicle crews to operate across day and night conditions and engage targets with precision at extended ranges.
Hensoldt’s expansion into optronics production through the Nedinsco acquisition reflects broader industry consolidation in Europe’s defence sector. The company already supplies systems across NATO militaries and allied nations, positioning the combined entity as a competitive supplier in the global armoured vehicle optics market.
The integration of Nedinsco’s expertise in optical design and thermal imaging with Hensoldt’s systems engineering capability strengthens the supplier base available to European defence contractors and, indirectly, to countries procuring or manufacturing European-standard armoured platforms.
