HAL And GE Aerospace Collaborate: Powering Fighter Jets With The GE-F414 Engine
- This made it possible for Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. to sign a deal to make engines in India.
- The Indian-made F-414 jet engines will also be used in the fifth-generation Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA), which is not the same thing as the LCA Mark-2.
After the diplomatic dinner at the White House, Prime Minister Narendra Modi thanked President Joe Biden for letting him into his house. A lot of important people from many different fields came to the dinner. Joe and Jill Biden were there to greet Modi when he got to the White House. Modi thanked Vice President and Mrs. Biden for making the trip a success.
People like Anand Mahendra of Mahendra Group, Anil and Nita Ambani, Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google, and Shyamalan, who makes movies, were there. Modi spoke to a joint session of the American Congress before the dinner. Modi is the first Indian Prime Minister who has spoken twice to the American Congress. During his speech, people who were there clapped 79 times.
In the meantime, the deal to make fighter jet engines at a plant in India has been completed. Now, the Indian company Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) will work with the American company GE Aerospace to make GE-F414 engines for fighter planes in India.
This will give India’s fighter jets modern engines. During the meeting with US President Biden, this important defense deal to teach India how to make jet engines is likely to be made public.
American company GE Aerospace stated that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) for the Indian Air Force. This comes during the official visit of Indian Prime Minister Modi to the United States of America between the two countries.
It is a big step toward making the two countries’ defense systems work better together. As part of the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Mark-II program, GE Aerospace had already promised to build 99 engines for the Indian Air Force. The new agreement adds on that promise.
In fact, America, Russia, England, and France are the only countries in the world that make fighter jet engines. This means that all fighter jets in the world have engines made in these four countries. Now, during Prime Minister Modi’s trip to the United States, the deal has been finalized for American company General Electric to set up its plant in India. This means that India will join the list of countries that make fighter jet engines. Also, having engines made in India will be very helpful for attack jets made in India because we won’t have to put out our hands to buy engines.
This month, the US government approved the transfer of technology for making GE engines. This made it possible for Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. to sign a deal to make engines in India. When US Defense Secretary Austin Lloyd went to India in June, the deal moved forward. Under the “Atmanirbhar Yojana” program of the Indian government, GE makes F-414 jet engines to power the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Mark-II, which is an Indian attack plane. The F-404 engine from GE is what drives the LCA Mark-1. The Indian-made F-414 jet engines will also be used in the fifth-generation Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA), which is not the same thing as the LCA Mark-2.
