Poland, which openly supported President Zelensky in the Ukraine war, is now terrified of a Russian attack. Furthermore, Poland has supplied arms to Ukraine on a large scale, and its stockpile has depleted.
To deal with both crises, Poland is now planning to purchase approximately 1000 tanks, 600 K9 guns, and dozens of fighter jets from South Korea. The Polish Defense Ministry has announced a plan to purchase weapons. This is the same cannon used by the Indian Army.
Poland is expected to announce the agreement on Wednesday. According to the Defense Ministry, Poland will purchase 980 K2 model tanks, 648 state-of-the-art automatic K9 guns, and 48 FA-50 fighter jets from South Korea under this agreement.
It is unknown how much money this entire transaction is worth. Hyundai Rotem, a Korean company, will supply two 180-tonne tanks to Poland by the end of this year. These tanks will be outfitted with 120 mm autoloaders.
Aside from that, 800 upgraded tanks will be manufactured in South Korea beginning in 2026. At the same time, Hanwha Defense will produce the first 48 K9 cannons this year, which will be available in Poland by the end of the year.
At the same time, the supply of 600 additional guns will begin in 2024. These weapons will be manufactured in Poland beginning in 2025. The armoured vehicles, according to the South Korean Defense Ministry, will replace Soviet-era tanks that Poland has now donated to Ukraine in the war against Russia.
This Ministry of Defense statement came as Poland’s Defense Minister tweeted on July 22 that this deal will significantly increase Poland’s security and military strength.
According to retired South Korean military general Choon In Bum, South Korea’s deal with Poland is the largest export deal ever made in one go. He lavished praise on South Korean weapons. According to General Choon, South Korea’s K9 cannon is the best artillery system in the world. Only Germany’s cannon is involved in the collision.
According to General Chun, the FA-50 aircraft is a fighter version of the T-50, which is widely regarded as the best training aircraft in the world. The latest version of the K2 tank is currently the best weapon in South Korea. South Korean arms exports are constantly promoted.
The United States and NATO countries now want South Korea to increase its arms exports. The Indian Army is also a fan of South Korea’s K9 cannon and is purchasing hundreds of them to combat China and Pakistan.
