According to a statement released on Tuesday, the FBI is conducting an inquiry into the unauthorized disclosure of classified documents regarding Israel’s preparations for a potential retaliatory attack on Iran.
John Kirby, the White House national security spokesman, stated on Monday that the Biden administration is still uncertain as to whether the classified information was leaked or hacked. However, officials have not yet received any indication that any additional documents of this nature will be released to the public.
At the Pentagon, Maj. Gen. Pat Ryder disclosed that Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin has conferred with his Israeli counterpart, Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, regarding the disclosure of documents. However, Ryder, the press secretary, stated that he was unable to provide any additional information or specify the date and time of the conversation.
The release was the subject of an investigation by US officials, according to the Associated Press on Saturday. On Tuesday, the FBI first confirmed the investigation and stated that it is collaborating closely with our partners in the Department of Defense and Intelligence Community in a statement. It did not provide any additional commentary.
The documents, which are attributed to the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency and National Security Agency, indicate that Israel is continuing to relocate military assets in preparation for a military strike in response to Iran’s devastating ballistic missile attack on October 1. They were shareable within the Five Eyes, an intelligence alliance that included the United States, Great Britain, Canada, New Zealand, and Australia.
The documents were initially published online on the Telegram messaging app on Friday and quickly disseminated among Telegram channels that were popular among Iranians. They were marked as top secret.
Ryder stated that he was unable to furnish any information regarding the investigation, including the identity of the department personnel who are collaborating with the FBI, which is overseeing the inquiry.
He emphasized the importance of allowing the investigation to proceed, as it is still in its early stages. He also stated that the department is committed to the protection of sensitive information and will continue to do so.
