DroneVerse Advances Indigenous Drone And Counter-Drone Systems For Defence Forces
DroneVerse has advanced indigenous drone and counter-drone systems designed for deployment with Indian Defence Forces, according to reports of the company’s latest development cycle.
The advancement reflects India’s accelerating push toward self-reliant unmanned aerial systems and counter-UAS capabilities. Domestically produced drone platforms and their countersystems address a critical gap in the Indian military’s operational inventory, particularly as aerial threats from unmanned platforms have multiplied across South Asia.
India’s drone ecosystem remains heavily dependent on imports, with the armed forces operating platforms ranging from hand-launched tactical drones to medium-altitude long-endurance systems. The development of indigenous alternatives through private sector participation aligns with the Defence Ministry’s emphasis on reducing foreign dependence and building a robust defence industrial base under the Make in India framework.
Counter-drone systems have emerged as a priority for all three services. The Indian Army has been testing mobile counter-UAS platforms to protect forward positions and airfields from hostile aerial reconnaissance and strike drones. The Navy similarly prioritises layered air defence against emerging unmanned threats. The Indian Air Force integrates counter-drone capabilities into base air defence networks.
DroneVerse’s work comes as DRDO simultaneously pursues multiple drone and counter-drone programmes across its laboratories. The Defence Research and Development Organisation operates dedicated unmanned systems divisions focusing on tactical reconnaissance platforms, loitering munitions, and directed-energy counter-systems. However, DRDO’s development cycles remain lengthy, creating space for private industry to prototype, test, and deploy systems at faster pace.
India’s private aerospace and defence sector has grown significantly over the past five years, with companies licensed to manufacture military-grade UAVs and associated ground control infrastructure. This ecosystem includes systems for surveillance, reconnaissance, and emerging roles in swarm operations and autonomous decision-making.
The counter-drone market in India encompasses electronic warfare solutions, kinetic interception platforms, and directed-energy systems. Operators range from air defence units to internal security forces managing airspace over sensitive installations and urban areas. Multi-layered counter-UAS architecture has become standard practice at military bases and high-value sites.
Deployment of homegrown systems strengthens India’s operational resilience while reducing dependence on foreign supply chains for critical defence equipment. Regular field testing and integration exercises ensure compatibility with existing command-and-control infrastructure and doctrine established across the three services.
