Defence Ministry Signs ₹2,095 Crore Deal with BDL for Advanced Anti-Tank Missiles

The new missile procurement will enhance the Indian Army’s T-90 tank firepower and strengthen indigenous defence production.

In a major step toward boosting India’s armoured warfare capabilities, the Ministry of Defence has finalised a ₹2,095.70 crore contract with Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) for the supply of advanced INVAR-class anti-tank guided missiles. The agreement, signed under the “Buy (Indian)” category, reinforces the government’s commitment to expanding indigenous defence production while modernising frontline equipment.

The newly procured missiles are intended for deployment with the Indian Army’s T-90 main battle tanks, which form a crucial part of India’s armoured regiments. Designed for high accuracy and deep penetration, the INVAR missiles offer long-range precision engagement against heavily armoured targets, significantly enhancing the offensive edge of India’s tank formations.

According to defence officials, the contract will not only improve operational readiness but will also strengthen India’s self-reliance in missile manufacturing. The deal ensures a substantial level of domestic content, supporting local industries, supply chains, and defence technology development.

BDL, as one of the country’s leading defence public sector units, is expected to undertake large-scale production to meet the Army’s operational requirements. The project is also seen as a boost to Aatmanirbhar Bharat, with the government steadily increasing procurement from Indian defence manufacturers.

The induction of these missiles is expected to give the T-90 fleet enhanced flexibility in battlefield scenarios, enabling tank crews to engage enemy armour at greater stand-off distances with improved precision and lethality.
