BEL Eyes Major ₹30,000 Crore QRSAM Contract as Government Clearance Remains Pending
Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), one of India’s leading defence electronics manufacturers, is anticipating a major business opportunity through the proposed ₹30,000 crore Quick Reaction Surface-to-Air Missile (QRSAM) programme. The large-scale defence contract is currently awaiting clearance from the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS), and its approval could significantly strengthen the company’s order pipeline during the current financial year.
The QRSAM programme is an important part of India’s efforts to strengthen the Indian Army’s air defence capabilities through indigenous technology. Developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) with participation from domestic industry partners, the system is designed to provide mobile air defence protection to military formations. It is intended to counter a range of aerial threats, including fighter aircraft, helicopters, drones and precision-guided weapons, particularly in demanding battlefield environments.
For BEL, the proposed contract represents a substantial opportunity to expand its contribution to India’s defence manufacturing sector. The company has been preparing for the programme through its involvement in development-related activities and investments in manufacturing infrastructure and technical capabilities. These preparations are expected to support production and execution once the government grants the necessary approval and the formal contract is concluded.
The QRSAM order is also closely connected to BEL’s financial targets for FY2026-27. The company has maintained its annual order inflow guidance of approximately ₹55,000 crore, with the proposed QRSAM contract accounting for a significant portion of the expected additions. Without this major programme, anticipated order inflows would be considerably lower, making the government’s decision particularly important for BEL’s near-term business outlook.
According to recent reports, BEL management expects the QRSAM approval process to progress in the coming period. However, the contract remains subject to the government’s final decision. The delay in securing the order has affected the timing of expected order inflows, although the company has retained its broader FY27 guidance.
BEL’s existing order position provides additional support to its growth outlook. Its order book stood at approximately ₹68,720 crore as of October 1, 2026, reflecting substantial demand across India’s defence electronics and military equipment programmes. The company has also reiterated its revenue growth guidance of at least 15 per cent for FY27, alongside an operating profit margin target of around 28 per cent.
The financial contribution from QRSAM is not expected to materialise immediately. Current expectations indicate that meaningful revenue from the programme could begin from FY2027-28, depending on the timing of contract finalisation, production schedules and execution milestones.
The proposed QRSAM contract therefore represents more than just another defence order for Bharat Electronics. Its eventual approval could strengthen the company’s long-term order visibility, support domestic defence production and contribute to India’s broader objective of reducing dependence on imported military systems. With CCS clearance still pending, the defence industry will be closely watching the next developments surrounding this major indigenous air defence programme.
