Army Bolsters Presence With Additional Troops In Poonch Belt

Story Highlights
  • In response to rising terror threats, the Army recently sent another brigade to the area to help fight terrorism.
  • People think that highly trained former Pakistani Army soldiers have been sent in to launch more attacks and stir up trouble in an area that has been mostly calm for the past ten years.

The Army is sending more troops to the Rajouri-Poonch sector because of a rise in attacks on security forces and more activity by terrorists from Pakistan who have set up hideouts in dense forests close to the Line of Control (LoC).

Sources say that troop deployments along the border with China will not be affected, and if needed, more troops will be sent to the area affected by terror from outside of Jammu and Kashmir. The Army wants to crack down on terror groups that have increased attacks in the Poonch-Rajouri sector. They think that Pakistan and China are working together to bring back terrorism in the sector in order to get troops to leave Ladakh.

After China sent thousands of troops to disputed areas along the Line of Actual Control in 2020, troops from the Rashtriya Rifles, a special force for fighting insurgencies, were sent to Ladakh.

In response to rising terror threats, the Army recently sent another brigade to the area to help fight terrorism. More troops could be added if needed. Sources say that terror training camps and launch pads have been seen to be working hard, even though Pakistan’s economy is getting worse.

Since the middle of 2021, there have been a lot of attacks in Poonch-Rajouri on security forces. People think that highly trained former Pakistani Army soldiers have been sent in to launch more attacks and stir up trouble in an area that has been mostly calm for the past ten years.
