Heightened Security Alert Along Indo-Nepal Border Ahead Of Republic Day

A top official said on Wednesday that security forces along the border between India and Nepal have been put on high watch because the country is celebrating Republic Day.
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) in Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), Gorakhpur, said that people’s identities are being checked before they are allowed to cross the border to stop the movement of bad people in the area.
The officer said that SSB has put up closed circuit and drone cameras on every road going to Nepal to improve security at the porous border between India and Nepal and stop people who are against the country from coming in. Nepal and Uttar Pradesh’s Maharajganj area share an open border that is 84 km long.
Singh said that these cams have been put on SSB posts as well as the main roads. He also said that metal detectors have been put in place at the Sonauli and Tuthibari stations on the border between India and Nepal.
The officer said that dog teams trained to find drugs and weapons have been sent to the border to stop people from sneaking things across.
Singh also said that help is being gotten from Nepalese security forces to make sure that no anti-national elements get into the Indian side.
