Hundreds gather in Patialkar village to honour the fallen IAF pilot who lost his life during a Tejas demonstration flight in Dubai

Patialkar village in Kangra district witnessed an overwhelming outpouring of grief and pride as residents, defence personnel, and local leaders gathered to bid a final farewell to Wing Commander Namansh Syal, the Indian Air Force pilot who lost his life in the recent Tejas fighter jet crash during an air show in Dubai.
The officer’s mortal remains were brought to his native village with full military honours. A long procession accompanied the tricolour-draped coffin, with villagers standing on both sides of the road to pay tribute. Many were seen holding candles and flowers as the atmosphere turned deeply emotional.
Wing Commander Syal’s wife, also an IAF officer, offered a final salute during the ceremony, capturing the nation’s collective sorrow. Family members, including his parents, expressed immense pride in his service while struggling to come to terms with the loss.
Officials from the Indian Air Force and district administration attended the final rites, acknowledging Syal’s exceptional skills as a fighter pilot and instructor. Known for his discipline, sharp flying abilities, and calm leadership, he had earlier flown frontline jets before taking on key roles in the Tejas program.
According to early assessments shared by officials at the ceremony, the crash occurred during a complex aerobatic maneuver. A detailed court of inquiry is currently underway to determine the exact cause of the incident.
The 37-year-old officer leaves behind his wife, a young daughter, and grieving parents. Local residents recalled him as a humble, determined boy who rose through the ranks through sheer talent and dedication. His passing marks a profound loss not just for the Indian Air Force but also for his home district, where he was regarded as a source of inspiration for youth aspiring to join the armed forces.
Himachal Pradesh leaders also extended condolences, stating that Wing Commander Syal’s sacrifice and service will remain etched in the state’s history. The day-long ceremony concluded with a traditional salute and full military honours, as the village united to honour one of its bravest sons.
