Indian Army Unveils Tent-Based Homestays in Garbyang, Uttarakhand to Promote Local Tourism

Eco-Friendly Homestays Bring Himalayan Culture Closer to Travelers While Supporting Border Villages

The Indian Army has taken a new step to encourage tourism and empower remote communities by launching tent-based homestays in Garbyang, a scenic village in Uttarakhand near the Indo-China border. This initiative aims to combine adventure tourism with community development, offering travelers an authentic experience of Himalayan life.

Garbyang, known for its breathtaking landscapes and proximity to pilgrimage routes like Adi Kailash and Om Parvat, now features eco-friendly tents designed to provide comfort while preserving the natural environment. Visitors can enjoy local cuisine, interact with villagers, and participate in cultural activities, giving them a glimpse of Kumaoni traditions.

The project is part of the Vibrant Villages Programme, an effort to strengthen border villages by boosting economic opportunities, infrastructure, and tourism. The Indian Army will oversee the initial setup but intends for villagers to manage the homestays, ensuring that the benefits remain within the community.

In addition to the homestays, the Army has facilitated improvements in roads, electricity, and healthcare services, making Garbyang more accessible while maintaining its pristine charm.

Booking Details:
Reservations can be made via the Garbyang Village Committee at 9410734276, 7579811930, or 9596752645. The cost of staying is ₹1,000 per person per night, inclusive of meals, offering an affordable way to explore the region.

This initiative is being praised as a win-win approach, supporting local livelihoods while providing travelers with a unique opportunity to experience life in one of India’s most scenic and remote Himalayan villages.
