Indian Army Patents Indigenous AI System to Classify Targets Automatically

Breakthrough innovation by Col Kuldeep Yadav enhances radar efficiency and strengthens India’s self-reliant defence push

The Indian Army has achieved a new milestone in defence innovation with the successful patenting of an AI-powered Automatic Target Classifying System. This breakthrough technology, developed by Colonel Kuldeep Yadav, is designed to improve how radar systems detect and categorise objects in real time, reducing dependence on manual interpretation.

The system uses advanced machine learning algorithms to process radar signatures, enabling it to automatically differentiate between multiple target types such as aircraft, vehicles, drones, or ground movement. By automating this process, the Army can minimise human error, speed up decision-making, and sharpen its response time in fast-changing battlefield scenarios.

Officials highlight that such technology will act as a force multiplier for frontline units. With quicker and more accurate classification, troops gain an enhanced situational awareness advantage, allowing them to react to threats with greater precision.

This innovation is also a reflection of India’s growing emphasis on Atmanirbhar Bharat in the defence sector. By designing and patenting homegrown technologies, the Indian Army is not only boosting its own capabilities but also reducing reliance on imported systems.

Col Kuldeep Yadav, the officer behind this development, has previously contributed to indigenous innovations in AI-driven military technology, further underscoring the Army’s talent pool in cutting-edge research.
