Russia announced that its forces had seized control of the east Ukrainian village of Memryk, strategically located only 20 kilometers (12 miles) from the Kyiv-held logistics hub of Pokrovsk.
Located at the crossroads of a crucial supply route for Ukrainian forces and neighboring towns on the eastern front, Pokrovsk has been a frequent target of Moscow’s military.
According to Russia’s Defense Ministry, the Tsenter grouping of troops successfully freed the settlement of Memryk, which had a population of less than 400 people before the start of the conflict in 2022.
Prior to the Russian military attack, Pokrovsk’s populace numbered approximately 60,000. However, with the escalation of nearby conflicts, over half of its inhabitants have sought refuge elsewhere.
After over two and a half years of Russia’s military campaign, recent developments have occurred as Kyiv’s soldiers continue to face overwhelming firepower and manpower on the extensive battlefield.
