Russia and India have made real progress in their talks about making military equipment together, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Wednesday after meeting with his Indian colleague Subrahmanyam Jaishankar in Moscow.
Lavrov said at a news conference that this kind of partnership was strategic, in the best interests of both countries, and would help keep the Eurasian continent safe.
He said that Moscow understood India’s desire to get defense equipment from more than one source and was ready to back New Delhi’s plan to make things India needs in India.
Dmitry Peskov, a spokesman for the Kremlin, said that Jaishankar would meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin later on Wednesday.
He said that he thought Putin and Narendra Modi, the prime minister of India, would meet next year.
Jaishankar said that he and Lavrov had talked about trade and business between the two countries as well as the conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza.

Jaishankar says that trade between India and Russia will reach more than $50 billion this year.
