Red Fort Blast: Suicide Bomber Suspected to Have Waited Inside Car for Hours Before Explosion
CCTV footage reveals the suspect remained inside the vehicle near Delhi’s Red Fort for over three hours, raising fears of a planned terror attack.

Fresh details have surfaced in the investigation into the car blast near Delhi’s Red Fort, suggesting the explosion was likely the result of a deliberately executed suicide mission. Sources involved in the probe revealed that CCTV footage captured the suspected bomber sitting inside the vehicle for more than three hours before the explosion tore through the area on Sunday evening.
The blast occurred near the Delhi Gate stretch, sending panic across the high-security zone that houses several iconic national landmarks. Police teams, along with forensic experts and the National Investigation Agency (NIA), are piecing together the sequence of events leading up to the detonation.
According to investigators, the suspect’s prolonged stay inside the car and the nature of the explosion indicate that it was not an accident but a planned, high-intensity act of terror. Burnt metal fragments and explosive residues recovered from the scene are being analyzed to identify the chemical composition used in the blast.
Officials are also examining potential links between this incident and the recent Faridabad terror module, where huge quantities of explosives were found at the residence of a Jammu and Kashmir-based doctor. Intelligence sources suspect that the same network may be involved in coordinated operations across the National Capital Region.
A senior Delhi Police official said that multiple agencies are now working together to uncover the motive, origin of the explosives, and the identity of the individual seen in the footage. “The initial assessment points towards a fidayeen-style attack, but final confirmation will depend on forensic and digital analysis,” the official added.
Security has been tightened across key areas of Delhi, with additional deployments near monuments, metro stations, and public hubs. Authorities have appealed to citizens to remain alert and report any suspicious activity.
The incident has reignited concerns over urban terror networks and the need for tighter surveillance around critical infrastructure in the capital.
