Quad Summit To Take Place In Delaware This Month, India May Host Next Year

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to attend the upcoming Quad summit in the US, where he will join leaders from the US, Japan, and Australia. The influential grouping is expected to discuss various pressing global challenges, such as the crisis in Ukraine.

An official announcement regarding the date and venue of the highly-anticipated summit is yet to be made. This year, it was India’s turn to host the Quad summit. However, considering the tight schedule and logistical challenges, the leaders have agreed to hold the summit at a mutually convenient location.

Under the new arrangement, India is set to hold the upcoming Quad summit in the following year. Prime Minister Modi, along with Australian leader Anthony Albanese and Japanese counterpart Fumio Kishida, will be making their way to New York for the UN’s Summit of the Future on September 22 and 23.

During the Quad summit, there will be a strong emphasis on enhancing collaboration among member countries in the Indo-Pacific region. Additionally, important global issues such as the Ukraine conflict will also be addressed.

In July, the foreign ministers of the Quad nations convened in Tokyo for extensive discussions aimed at enhancing cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region. The ministerial meeting delivered a strong message to China, underscoring the group’s unwavering dedication to promoting a free and open Indo-Pacific. Additionally, the Quad pledged to strive towards an equitable regional landscape where no single country holds dominion and all nations are able to operate without fear of coercion in any capacity.

In addition, the foreign ministers declared their intention to extend the ambitious Indo-Pacific Maritime Domain Awareness (IPMDA) initiative to encompass the Indian Ocean area, with the aim of enhancing surveillance of these crucial waters. During his visit to New York, Prime Minister Modi will not only address an event for the Indian community but also engage in discussions with various global leaders during the UN summit, according to sources familiar with the matter.

According to the UN, the upcoming Summit of the Future will gather leaders from different nations to establish a fresh global agreement on promoting a “better present and securing the future”.

According to sources familiar with the situation, the summit is expected to occur on September 21 in Delaware, which happens to be US President Joe Biden’s hometown of Wilmington.

As per the UN, successful international collaboration is essential for our well-being, but it is challenging to attain when there is a lack of trust and reliance on outdated systems that do not align with current political and economic circumstances. The Summit of the Future offers an opportunity to rectify this situation.
