Iran Launches Retaliatory Missile and Drone Strikes on US Bases in Jordan, Kuwait and Bahrain

Iran has launched a fresh wave of missile and drone attacks against US-linked military facilities in Jordan, Kuwait and Bahrain, sharply escalating tensions in the Middle East after the United States carried out new strikes against Iranian military targets. The Iranian retaliation came despite US President Donald Trump warning Tehran that any further attack would trigger a much stronger American response.

The latest escalation follows US military strikes on Iranian targets linked to air defence, radar, maritime and communications capabilities. According to reports, Washington said the operations were connected to growing threats to US personnel and commercial shipping in and around the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most strategically important waterways.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) subsequently announced attacks against American military positions in the region. Iranian missiles and drones were reported to have targeted facilities in Jordan, Kuwait and Bahrain, with additional attacks reported against US-linked assets in Iraq. The attacks demonstrate Tehran’s ability to extend its military response beyond Iranian territory and put American forces and allied infrastructure across the Gulf under pressure.

In Jordan, Iranian ballistic missiles were reported to have targeted US military facilities, while Jordanian forces moved to intercept incoming projectiles. Reports indicated that several missiles were intercepted, although the precise extent of damage and casualties remained subject to conflicting claims from the parties involved.

In Kuwait, missile and drone activity was also reported around US-linked military facilities. Iranian authorities claimed to have struck American military infrastructure, while reports from the region indicated that air-defence systems were activated against the incoming threats. The situation remained fluid, with authorities continuing to assess damage and casualties.

Bahrain also came under renewed pressure as air-raid sirens sounded amid reports of Iranian attacks targeting US interests. Bahrain is strategically important to the United States because it hosts the headquarters of the US Navy’s Fifth Fleet, making the country a critical centre for American maritime operations in the Gulf.

The Iranian attacks represent a significant escalation in the confrontation between Tehran and Washington. Iran has repeatedly warned that US military action against its territory or interests would result in retaliation against American forces and facilities across the region. The latest strikes indicate that Tehran is attempting to impose costs on the United States while exploiting the geographic reach of its missile and drone capabilities.

Trump had earlier warned Iran against retaliating for the latest US operations, saying that any response would face a substantially stronger American military reaction. Iran’s decision to proceed with attacks despite the warning raises concerns that the confrontation could enter another cycle of direct military escalation.

The renewed fighting is also raising concerns over the security of the Strait of Hormuz, through which a major share of global oil shipments passes. Any prolonged military confrontation around the waterway could threaten commercial shipping and global energy supplies, while increasing pressure on countries across the Gulf to strengthen their air-defence and maritime security measures. Oil prices have already moved higher amid fears of further disruption.

The immediate focus now remains on whether the United States will launch another round of strikes against Iranian targets and whether Tehran will continue attacking US military positions and allied facilities. With both sides issuing increasingly forceful warnings, the latest exchange has raised fears that the conflict could spread further across the Middle East.
