Women Officers Of Indian Army Will Now Run Howitzer Cannon And Rocket System, Training Will Be Done For Command Role

Indian Army Women Officer Training: The Indian Army is now going to train women officers for howitzer cannon and rocket system command. The Army has stepped up efforts to train women officers for command and leadership roles as colonel and beyond. Five women cadets are set to be commissioned into the Frontline Artillery Regiment after passing out from the Officers Training Academy.

The passing out parade of the Officers Training Academy will be held in Chennai on 29 April. “The Army has launched such a series at multiple levels to ensure that the force rapidly moves towards inclusivity by empowering women officers for leadership roles,” a senior officer said on Saturday.

What did the army officer say?

He pointed out that for example, a special ‘Senior Command’ course was recently conducted at the Army War College in Mhow to groom women officers to strengthen the command in operational, intelligence, logistics and administrative aspects .

Removed special vacancies for women officers

Earlier this year, through a special selection board, the army relaxed several policies for command assignment to 108 women officers in the colonel-rank. The official said that the government has released 150 additional vacancies specifically for these women officers. Hence there is no impact on the vacancies available for male officers.
