Indian Army Rolls Out First Overhauled ‘T-90 Bhishma’ Tank

The Indian Army has reached a notable milestone in its modernization initiatives with the successful refurbishment of the T-90 Bhishma tank. The Corps of Electronics and Mechanical Engineers (EME) conducted the refurbishment at the 505 Army Base Workshop in Delhi Cantonment.

The renovation, integral to the Army’s “Decade of Transformation” initiative, was observed by General Upendra Dwivedi, Chief of the Army Staff.

He commended the EME technicians and officers for their expertise and commitment in restoring the T-90, a pivotal battle tank in India’s mechanized forces since 2003.

The procedure entailed a thorough disassembly of the tank, reducing it to its most fundamental components.

According to the official statement released by the Army, over 200 assemblies and sub-assemblies were meticulously disassembled, reconstructed, and evaluated utilizing advanced equipment supplied by the tank’s original manufacturer.

Following comprehensive testing, the tank was reassembled and considered prepared for all-terrain operations.

This refurbishment not only prolongs the lifespan of the T-90 but also underscores India’s capacity to sustain and enhance its essential defense systems independently.

General Dwivedi underscored the significance of ongoing innovation and skill enhancement as the Army advances its transformation initiatives.
