Indian Army Opens Agniveer Recruitment 2026 Drive with Over 25,000 Posts
Revised age criteria and multiple entry roles announced under Agnipath scheme

The Indian Army has launched its much-awaited Agniveer Recruitment 2026, offering more than 25,000 vacancies for young candidates across the country. The recruitment is part of the Agnipath Scheme, aimed at modernizing the armed forces while creating short-term service opportunities for youth.
The online registration process is currently active and will continue until early April 2026, giving aspirants a limited window to apply through the official Army recruitment portal. The initiative is expected to attract lakhs of applicants from across India.

This recruitment drive includes multiple entry categories, ensuring opportunities for candidates from different educational backgrounds. Key roles include:
- Agniveer General Duty
- Agniveer Technical
- Clerk / Storekeeper
- Tradesman
- Nursing Assistant
- Women Military Police
Each role comes with specific eligibility criteria and responsibilities, allowing candidates to choose according to their qualifications and interests.
2. Changes in Age Eligibility
In a significant update, the Army has relaxed the upper age limit for certain categories, giving more candidates a chance to apply. While the base age requirement remains around 17.5 years, the upper limit has been adjusted in select cases, making the recruitment more inclusive.
3. Educational Requirements
The eligibility criteria vary by role:
- General Duty & Tradesman: Minimum 8th or 10th pass
- Technical & Clerk Posts: 12th pass with required subjects
- Candidates must also meet strict physical fitness and medical standards
4. Selection Procedure Explained
The selection process has been designed to test both knowledge and physical capability. It includes:
- Online Common Entrance Examination (CEE)
- Physical Fitness Test (running, strength tasks, etc.)
- Medical examination
- Final document verification
Only candidates who successfully clear all stages will be enrolled.
5. Salary and Financial Package
Selected Agniveers will receive a starting monthly package of around ₹30,000, which increases every year during the four-year tenure. A portion of the salary is set aside under a savings scheme, which is returned as a lump sum along with government contribution after completion of service.
