India Establishes Two Strategic Army Tank Repair Facilities Near China Border

Story Highlights
  • India's External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar said on Tuesday that the present buildup of troops along the border with China is "abnormal.
  • Each country has sent troops "ahead of normal base positions, normal patrolling zones out there" over the past four years, the minister said in Kolkata.

The Indian Army has built two high-altitude tank repair facilities in eastern Ladakh. This is another step to improve the military’s infrastructure and tank activities along the eastern Ladakh border with China.

Two new places to fix tanks have been built. One is in the Daulat Beg Oldi (DBO) sector, and the other is in the new sector, which is only 25 km from the border with China.

Over the past four years, India has built up its military along the border with China. At the moment, nearly 500 tanks are stationed in the Ladakh area. A big problem was getting them back to the mainland to be fixed, but the new repair shops should solve that problem.

Officials also said that the new facilities have helped the Indian Army make the armored fighting vehicles, like tanks, and infantry combat vehicles that are used in that area more efficient and easy to maintain.

General Manoj Pande, the head of the Indian Army, recently visited the Medium Maintenance (Reset) Facility for Armored Fighting Vehicles. This facility is meant to improve the efficiency and serviceability of these vehicles in rough areas.

In other news, India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar said on Tuesday that the present buildup of troops along the border with China is “abnormal.” He said that Beijing broke a lot of agreements when it started pushing army troops along the Line of Actual Control in 2020. To fight back, India also sent out a lot of troops.

Each country has sent troops “ahead of normal base positions, normal patrolling zones out there” over the past four years, the minister said in Kolkata.
